Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, rich in culture, history and many attractions, where various cultures are intertwined, has many things to offer for free. Every newcomer who does not have a local friend or wonders what to see in the city can check out these helpful tips and organize a free tour throughout the city for oneself. 

1.Old Tbilisi – Narikala Fortress

Tbilisi is a very hilly city, so you can enjoy the most fabulous views from certain points. Old part of Tbilisi and fascinating Narikala fortress are must see  sights of Georgia’s capital. The 4th century fortress stands on a hill that is dotted with colorful houses offering fascinating view of Mtkvari River and the city in general. The easiest way to get there is by cable car from Rike Park,or walk up on foot as well. As you are up, you can take a walk to Georgia’s national monument Mother of Georgia, welcoming guests with a bowl of wine and warning the enemies with her sword.

2.Sulfur baths

Next destination is sulfur baths in Abanotubani (the Bath District) located in Old Tbilisi. Hot thermal springs here were discovered in the 5th century and the city was built around them. The city was called after these hot waters; ‘Tbili’ in Georgian means ‘warm’. Thermal water bath is perfect for skin diseases and nervous system. After undergoing this procedure you’ll have the skin like baby’s and feel extremely refreshed. If you are not ready to experiencing hot baths then you can simply walk around, explore souvenir shops and take memorable photos. Near baths you can walk through famous Leghvtakhevi or fig gorge, where beautiful waterfall comes down as well.

3.Sameba Cathedral

The Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tbilisi commonly known as Sameba is the main cathedral of the Georgian Orthodox Church located in Avlabari district. It is the third-tallest Eastern Orthodox cathedral in the world and considered to be one of the largest religious buildings in the South Caucasus.The height of the cathedral is 86.1 meters. This spectacular temple is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Georgia.

Funicular on Mtatsminda hill (Holy Mountain) is one of the most frequently visited tourist sites, since it offers magnificent views over entire city. The place is notable for the famous TV Tower and Ferris wheel lit in various colors that stand on the hill and can be seen almost from any part of the city. You can easily get there by cable railway as well as by car. Originally funicular cable railway was built in 1903-1905 to connect “Upper Tbilisi” with the “Lower Tbilisi”.

Another inseparable and colorful feature of Tbilisi is its Dry Bridge Market where one can find plenty of interesting items, starting from soviet coins ending with antique silverware and porcelain tea cups and plates.
